Which airport should I use?

  • The nearest airport is the Kona International Airport (KOA) at Keahole. It takes approximately 20-25 minutes to drive to the hotel.
  • There is also an airport at Hilo (ITO)—approximately 1 ½ hour drive to hotel. If you plan to rent a car to drive from Hilo to the Resort and leave it on the Kona Coast, please check out the drop-off charge. It may be quite expensive.

How easy is it to find the hotel?

  • From the Kona Airport, head north on the Queen Kaahumanu Highway (left turn from airport onto highway). You will drive approximately 20 to 25 minutes to Waikoloa Beach Drive (there is a traffic light at this intersection.). Turn left onto Waikoloa Beach Drive. The Hilton Waikoloa Village will be on your left shortly after the Marriott Hotel.
  • The highway from the airport to the hotel does not have street lights—so be aware if you are driving at dusk/dawn/or during the evening.

How do I get from the Airport to the hotel? Is there a hotel shuttle?

The Hilton Waikoloa Village does not have a shuttle.

However, you have several options:

Luana Concierge (AKA Laura’s Taxi) has a 6-person minivan for a flat fee of $66. NO—this is not a mistake. It is LUANA in one case and LAURA in the other!

If you are arriving with other people, this would be a cost effective solution. Owner is a Rotarian. Contact: 1 (808) 326 Limo (5466). www.luanalimo.com.(808) 326-5466 (7 a.m. – 11 p.m.) or (808) 895-4727 (11 p.m. – 7 a.m.)

The biggest advantage of using Luana Limousine/Laura’s Taxi is that they are not an airport taxi company. They only pick up our reservations at the airport. This ensures that Laura’s will be waiting for the guest when they arrive, instead of the guest waiting for their taxi.

SpeediShuttle picks up at the Kona International airport. This is a shared service in Mercedes Benz vans—meaning they will be picking up other people. Minimum price from airport to Waikoloa Village looks to be around $56. Prices include tax; gratuity not included; all credit cards are accepted.

Reservations are recommended 24 hours in advance, but are not required. Pick-up is at the shuttle-islands outside both Hawaiian and United Airlines.

Consider Laura’s Taxi (operated by Rotarian-owned Luana Concierge). 808.326.LIMO (5466). Laura’s is the contracted taxi service at the Waikoloa Hilton. Thus, they can bill any transportation costs to the room of a guest if the guest prefers.
Note: The County of Hawaii sets the rates for taxis. The taxi rates are based on mileage and are set by the County. The initial charge is $3.00 and then it is $3.20 per mile.

They carry 6 passengers maximum. Approximate Fares (one way)

What are my options if I want to rent a car at the hotel?

National Car Rental Service has an office at the Waikoloa for people who want a short excursion, although prices are higher than Avis. Pick up and return to the hotel. The National Car Rental desk is located inside Hilton Waikoloa Village. Call 808-886-2821.

I need to rent a medical mobility scooter (AKA a “rascal”) to get around the property. How do I do that?

Do you need a medical mobility scooter (AKA a “rascal”) for moving around the hotel? There are very few scooters on the Big Island. The Institute has arranged for 3 Medical Scooters to be at the hotel. If you want to rent one, the pricing is $250 for the week. Contact Laura Steelquist at laura@himed.cc or call 808-221-0126 to reserve one of these 3 scooters. First come: First served.

Additional scooters can be available but require at least 3 weeks’ notice.

Big Island Medical has a very limited number of scooters. Contact Ian, Diane or Kimberly (808) 323-3313 NO LATER than 2 months before the Institute.

What is the cost of parking my car at the hotel?

We have a reduced Self-Parking charge of $10.00 (normally, $17.00) inclusive of tax per car, per day (subject to change) to all registered guests. Valet Parking is available at $22.00 tax inclusive per car per day (subject to change).

For electric vehicles, the hotel provides complimentary use of the charging stations available in our valet parking lot for registered hotel guests.  Electric vehicles pay the self-parking rate when using valet parking.  Regular parking prices apply for hybrid vehicles using valet & self-parking.

Is there transportation to nearby shopping centers (for restaurants and shopping)?

A shuttle takes people from the hotel to/from the nearby Kings’ Shops and Queen’s Marketplaces every 20 minutes between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. $2 per person each way.

There is also free hotel shuttle to the Waikoloa pro shop and restaurant.
