Education & Training
The Zones Education and Training programs are framed by Rotary International’s Strategic Plan and the responsibilities of serving as District Governor as outlined in the Manual of Procedure. Using a facilitated instructional process, Governors are given both specific skills training and an understanding of how to achieve a successful result. The objective is to prepare Rotary leaders for their responsibilities and service as officers of Rotary International, well grounded in knowledge of The Rotary Foundation.
There are three main components to the system used: GNATS (Governor Nominee Advanced Training) for the District Governor Nominee (DGN), GETS (Governor Elect Training) for the District Governor Elect. In addition there are two other programs – the Partners Program and the Coaches Program.

The Governors’ Seminar: - has a “continuing education” nature, conducted with several components: briefings by top Rotary leaders present for the Zone Institute; an opportunity to dialogue with the Director; the opportunity to share best practices and successes; and discussion and problem-solve challenges with each other Governors.
The GETS program: - further develops the leadership and communication expertise of Zone 25/26 Governors, to give Governor Elects additional information and opportunities to build skills to assist their efforts to improve and strengthen Rotary clubs, and promote the programs available through Rotary International and The Rotary Foundation.
The GNATS program: - focuses on individual self awareness, building the District team, leadership and motivation, event planning to include District Conference and contract negotiation, building upon knowledge for effective decision-making, with specific emphasis on those tasks which these future leaders will act upon during their DGN year.
The Partners’ Program: - is designed to meet the needs of the DG Partners at each phase of the Governor cycle - the two years of preparation as DGN and DGE, and the actual year as the partner of a District Governor.
The Coaches Program: - provides each DGND (District Governor Nominee Designate) with a ‘coach’ who will assist in the DGND’s development through the period of selection by their District leading up to their attendance as DGNs at GNATS.
